Smestow School Matchday Experience

< Back to the news
On Saturday 1st February 45 students and 4 members of staff went on yet another Matchday Experience to Manchester, this time to see Manchester United v Wolves. A 5:30 kick off meant that the trip started at 10:30 where the students started the journey on a Hills coach up the M6.

The students then went onto Etihad Stadium where they were going to complete a tour; one of the best tours that any of the members of staff had been on. A very interactive tour led by 3 outstanding gentlemen who really made the tour and involved all students as we walked through a state of the art stadium.

The students got to see the changing rooms and sit in the places of some of the superstars, be sat in the same seat as Pep Guardiola on their dugout, they even got the chance to role-play an interview with Pep himself in the press room. The students also got chance to purchase any merchandise from the club shop where they enjoyed 10% discount and brought some memorabilia to stay with them in memory of the trip.

They then started their journey to Old Trafford for the true event of the day where a range of Manchester United and Wolves fans were looking forward to seeing their idols in the flesh.

A game that finished 0-0 but provided a number of chances for both sides with some excellent football on show, along with a great atmosphere which some of the students were taken back by. The view from the top tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson stand was excellent and the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Mr Webb sends his thanks to Mr Craig, Miss Roberts & Mr Davies who accompanied him on the trip, without their help it wouldn’t have been possible. More importantly; to all students who attended the trip. Their behaviour throughout the whole day was impeccable where not a bad word from any member of staff was mentioned towards or about the students as they conducted themselves excellently from the coach journey, to the tour, to spectating the football match.

A very enjoyable day for all involved and something that a number of people will remember for their lifetime.
